Helping Children & Their Families
One couple chooses to help other children go to Catholic school
When asked how they became involved with CEF, a very special couple tells a heart-warming story of sharing and community. When their three older children were six, seven, and eight years old the father lost his job due to failing eyesight. The couple took some of their small savings and paid the full year's tuition at the Catholic elementary school where the children would enter first, second, and third grade. They would keep things as near normal as possible. The father became a stay at home dad and the mother went to work. With very little income and some help from scholarships, they managed to send their now four children (a baby boy blessed the family
after four years) to Catholic elementary and high schools. This couple felt that it was important for their children to continue in Catholic schools where they would have the moral and academic tools to help them succeed in life. Their dad did not give up when he became blind but continued to cook, do carpentry, plumbing, etc. to make their home as good as possible. They wanted their children to know that, with God's help, and hard work you can succeed. Catholic schools reinforce this philosophy and all the children went on to receive university degrees and good jobs.
Years later, the couple received a benefits settlement that was long over-due. Had they received this money when they were still raising their children, life would have been very different. But they were done raising children and now enjoying their grand-children. Then, they heard about CEF and the tuition awards program. Since they had already seen the excellent results of a good education, the couple decided they would use some money from the settlement to help other families in the community send their kids to Catholic school.
Each donor has a story about why they choose to invest in children through the Catholic Education Foundation. And each donor makes a difference, no matter how much they give. Please join us today in helping a student take the first step towards a high school diploma and a better future.
